For this week’s workshop, we are discussing the term ‘The Remix’ and how remixed materials have become a big part of online culture. More specifically, we looked at the term ‘meme’ which essentially means ‘ an image, video, piece of text, etc.. typically humorous in nature, that is copied and spread rapidly between Internet users, often with slight variations‘. Our final task for this module is to create a remix of online content and distinguish a new meaning behind it, but to become familiar with the process, we had a go at creating our own musical remixes using online software ‘Mix the City’. This website allows you to select a city, choose y0ur preferred sounds and record a completely remixed song using those elements.

This activity was a good introduction to the final task as it made me think about what content was online, how I could manipulate it to create my own meaning and what types of software there is in order to help me achieve this.
